Original Title: Dust of my Wings
Series: Dante's Circle #1
Author: Carrie Ann Ryan
Publisher: Fated Desires Publishing
Release Date: July 24th, 2012
Genre: Paranormal
Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?
Neat freak lab tech, Lily Banner lives her life as any ordinary human. She’s dedicated to her work and loves to hang out with her friends at Dante’s Circle, their local bar. When she discovers a strange blue dust at work she meets a handsome stranger holding secrets – and maybe her heart. But after a close call with a thunderstorm, she may not be as ordinary as she thinks.
Shade Griffin is a warrior angel sent to Earth to protect the supernaturals’ secrets. One problem, he can’t stop leaving dust in odd places around town. Now he has to find every ounce of his dust and keep the presence of the supernatural a secret. But after a close encounter with a sexy lab tech and a lightning quick connection, his millennia old loyalties may shift and he could lose more than just his wings in the chaos.
“Hi.” Shade smiled and tilted his head.
“Hi,” she breathed.
“You look beautiful, Lily.” He tucked a stray hair behind her ear and she shivered.
“You do too.” She blushed again. Soon she’d be Crayola red. “I mean you look handsome.”
He traced her jaw with a calloused finger. “Thank you. Are you ready to go?”
She swallowed hard. “Uh huh.”
Okay, she really had to remember the English language. This was getting embarrassing.
“Okay then.” He trailed his hand down her arm and wrapped his palm around hers. His warm skin felt like heaven against hers.
She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. How was she supposed to get through a whole date if she couldn’t even formulate thoughts to get out of the door?
With a nod, she gripped his hand tighter and closed the door behind her. He led her to his bike and she smiled.
“I love it, Shade.”
He gave a huge grin. “Thanks. This is my baby. No matter where I am, I try and take her with me.” He rubbed the leather seat and an irrational urge to knock the bike down went through her.
She would not be jealous of a motorcycle. Would not.
I'm an author because I have stories to tell, but I'm a reader because I know there are more stories out there. Why do I read? Because as an escape, a new way to see life, to see the world, and to find out how people fall in love. Since I started reading romance novels about three years ago, I've read over 5500 books.
I know, crazy right?
It's loved every one of them, but I've loved most. What is it about romance novels or a book in general that I love? Is this the way that each character is unique, yeah there are stereotypes, and templates. Each book is different for me and that you have a different set of characters a different world the different way they interact. I love trying to pick that apart and figuring out how I would fit in, or how frankly, I wouldn't.
I read at least a book a day. Yes, I know, that seems like a lot. But I can't help it, I need to read. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and sometimes reading helps with the pain. I'm thinking about something else that's not my joints. Plus, finding out how a hero to fall in love with a woman and how a heroine can find it within herself to fall for that man. Each book open is a new world in a new way to experience just the simple things.
In Dust of My Wings, I did what I love doing best. I opened up a whole new world, with the supernatural or in abundance and the humans don't know they exist. Each human is in itself a supernatural, just a deluded down version. But they don't know it. It's going to take something to spark that change. I got to create a whole new world, and find out where I would fit in, and where I didn't. I got to meet new characters, like Shade, a warrior angel over millennia in age, sent out to save his people only to find the lab tech named Lily is in his way.
I read a book because it's fun not being myself for just a moment and being someone else. Sometimes I can be that heroine and fall in love with the hearer right there, take each stumble with the same grace she has, and rise against the antagonist with her. Other times on the third-party watching from afar you loving every bit of it. That's why I love reading, because I can be the character or a can watch the characters, it doesn't matter it's up to me and the author. But each time I get defining the world.
So tell me, what's your favorite part about reading? Is it the new worlds? The new characters? What are you the most excited about reading a new series?

ReplyDeletevitajex(at)aol(dot)com
Carrie Ann, I understand about the pain you have with your RA I also read a book a day, also because I have a chronic illness, I have Fybromialga/Chronic Fatigue so there are times when I can hardly get out of bed to use the potty let alone go anyplace, reading is an escape for me it lets me meet people, go places and fall in love over and over again.

And , not all of us can afford to have a tour around the world, so a book can serve as your passport and travel all over the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great giveaway!

Oh yes, you are so right!
DeleteCarrie Ann is a new-to-me author so I'm not familiar with her books. I love VBTs because it allows me the opportunity to meet authors I would not otherwise find.
ReplyDeleteI read primarily historical romances and my reading is for entertainment purposes. I also enjoy watching TV. While I was reading about your book today, I began to wonder about a new program I only recently discovered called 'Alphas' on the SyFy channel. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. It is in it's second season now. Anyway, your book sounds like it would translate well to film. If you book was ever made into a movie, who do you see playing the main characters?
kareninnc at gmail dot com
I've seen Alphas, I enjoy most of SyFy's TV shows LOL. And oh, Hm.... for Shade: Henry Cavil. Yum. And Lily? Rachel McAdams. :-)
DeleteI love reading because of all the new worlds to escape into. The best feeling is opening a book and looking at the clock some time later and six hours have passed, and it only felt like ten minutes. It's amazing! :-)
ReplyDeletejustforswag(AT)yahoo(DOT)com
OH yes, I totally know what you mean!!
DeleteCongratulations on the book! I like reading about new worlds and characters.
ReplyDeletebn100candg(at)hotmail(dot)com
Thank you hon!
DeleteReading for me is a brief but needed escape from my very busy life. Usually 30 mins - 1 hour before besto wind down, however... Reading dust of my wings kept me up past my bed time most nights. Shade and lily's chemistry was fantastic and it was nice to see a different side to Carrie Ann's stories... I do love the redwoods... I can't wait to see what Carrie Ann does in the next book of this series!
ReplyDeleteWmckillip@roadrunner.com
Aww thank you so much! LOL And yes! I love keeping people up reading. *cough*
DeleteI like and understand about finding new worlds while reading books. I read fantasy, paranormal and crime novels. One author you might like is Robert J Sawyer, a Canadian SF/fantasy writer. I found his first trilogy to be completely absorbing and was happy that all had been published before I found them so I didn't have to wait. The titles: Hominids. Humans. Hybrids. And, yes, there is an inter-species romance. I have also read Rollback and Fast Forward - no romance, though. He has another trilogy that I want to read, as well.
ReplyDeleteI also like Diane Gabaldon who writes historical fiction as a series so you need to start from book 1.
I could go on. And, yes, the necklace is stunning.
LOL I love that! And thank you, I the necklace is pretty, but not as big as that LOL. It's about the size of my thumbnail.
DeleteCarrie Ann...You've read over 5500 books in three years?? WOW! That's impressive. That pace is like...superhuman. How is that possible?? As a librarian, I love avid readers but I don't think our collection could keep up with you. You go, girl!
ReplyDeletecatherinelee100 at gmail dot com
LOL, I read annoyingly fast. In fact, this past Sunday I read 8 books. LOL
DeleteLove the Redwood Pack series!! I have no doubt I will live this book as well!! Downloading tonite!! You're a great writer!! Keep on going!!
ReplyDeleteCfladhammer@wi.rr.com
Oh Yay!! Thank you soooo much!
DeleteI love the book cover and the necklace is lovely.
ReplyDeleteKit3247(at)aol(dot)com
Love the excerpt and cover, thx for giveaway.
ReplyDeleteblinkysthebest at aol dot com
Reading is my escape. It always has been. I love how I can put myself in the heroine's place & be transported to wherever or whenever the book takes place. My favorite thing about a series is how we get to know the characters do well @ revisit them.
ReplyDeleteWolphcall(at)bellsouth(dot)net
This book sounds very interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteBecky01x(at)gmail(dot)com
Book sounds so good! Jealous of a motorcycle, LOVE it! I love reading! I try to read everyday, most of the time this happens.
