Rumors by A.C.Arthur

Rumor has it…he will kill again.

Her death tore them apart. Will solving her murder bring them back together?

Best friends Landy, Tenile, Nicole, Nathan, Justin, and Kareem were the golden children of Tanner University. Their paths were set: doctors, lawyers, business moguls, they were going to light the world on fire. Then, two weeks before graduation, Landy was murdered—and Nathan was blamed. Though he was never charged, vicious rumors drove him from town, and the circle of friends broke.

Ten years later, Nathan is back in Tanner, determined to clear his name. He’s asking questions no one wants answered, and soon rumors threaten to divide the community once more. Everyone in this small town is keeping big secrets—especially Landy’s old friends—and someone is willing to kill to keep their darkest deeds buried…

REVIEW

Landy, Tenile, Nathan, Justin and Kareem were best friends, during their college at Tanner University.  Landy-Justin and Tenile-Nathan were couples.  Everything was so beautiful and their future is all set, just when Landy was murdered.  And Nathan became the suspect.  Even after Nathan's father won him out of the case, rumors never changed.  Ten years later, Nathan goes back to Tanner to find the murderer.  But there are so many secrets and so many rumors that comes with every turn Nathan takes.  Between all this, he has to win Tenile back...from Justin.

Very well written and interesting characters!  Every character has more secrets than what we know through the first impression and the author releases one after the other giving readers enough time to appreciate or analyze everything.  The change in POV between the main characters gave more detail behind the motivation for their secrets.  I loved the romance between Tenile and Nathan and was rooting for the couple to get together from the start.

I couldn't have asked for a better mystery novel.  This is just perfect, until the ending though.  That's just plain cruel to end a novel like that, without even a partial closure. :(  But, the only thing that has kept me from pulling my hair after that kind of ending is that the second part of this series is coming soon.  That's a big relief.

Review & Giveaway: The Fine Art of Deception: Undoing Time by Alyssa Richards

Art appraiser Adeline Montgomery just wants a normal life. One where she can ignore the vicious ghosts who follow her. One where shes free from her “gift” of touching an object and seeing the owners deepest secrets. And one where she can fall in love without having all of the above get in the way.

But when tall, dark, and dangerous gallery owner Blake Greenwood enters her life, normal is the last thing shes feeling. The man has more secrets than the priceless art he sells, giving Adelines quest for normal no chance. That, and he may just hold the key to uncovering the truth behind her fathers unexplained disappearance.

Despite her paranormal gifts warning her to stay away, she feels an inexplicable, captivating fascination for him, something that goes deeper than attraction. Theres something between them thats older than time, and if she can learn to give him her trust, it may just save her life.

REVIEW

Addie has the gift of 'sight'.  She can touch any object/person and say everything about its history.  And she can also see ghosts..ones who can even threaten her life. After a very bad breakup with her boyfriend, she decides to have just a normal life, without using any of her gifts.  She takes a job in an art firm, where her grandfather has been a partner, before he disappeared mysteriously.  The firm owner, Otto, has other plans for her.  Otto introduces Addie to Blake, an art dealer.  The attraction between Addie and Blake is terrific, and Addie, who has been celibate for the past 7 years, doesn't welcome this feeling of vulnerability.  Just when Addie gets a taste of what normal life is, she gets tangled in a dangerous web of deception.

This is going to be a difficult review for me.  I can't say much details, as I may give away some important plot lines.  I will try to be make it spoiler-free, as much as possible.

The plot is unique in a way that you will keep thinking of its awesomeness for a long time after finishing this book.

There was so much positives in the book, that kept me awake with my Kindle at night, in spite of my recently sleep deprived life.  I am grazing through some things I loved here..

  • The romance between Addie and Blake
  • The mystery of the stolen art
  • The paranormal touch to everything
  • The beauty of knowing the characters' inherent feelings
  • The change in POV without causing confusion, but giving more depth to the story

I could actually go on and on.

The writing was great, despite this being the author's debut.  The climax wrapped up some major subplots and ended with HEA.  There are some questions unanswered like why Addie's grandfather has given warning, why he made his presence after all this time, how did Blake come in Addie's dreams and of course, the real mystery about the art.

I wish I have the second book with me now.  This book has exceeded my expectations in every way.  You should definitely read it, if romance, suspense or paranormal genre suits you.

Spotlight: One Foot Outside the Door by Vina St Fran

Good lovin’ is easy…But true happiness is harder to find…

To anyone on the outside looking in through the door of Cyndarella Worthy’s life, it looks like she’s got it all.  At thirty-two, she’s beautiful and successful, with a handsome brother lover, Thad Mitchell.  But deep in her heart, she holds a candle for Bashar Bazzi, the Chaldean immigrant she loved ten years ago.  Bashar left for Iraq and she never saw him again, and she assumes he made a marriage within his own community without a backward glance.

Cyn’s girlfriends, Tavie, Denise and Vette, know that their sister still carries the scars of Bashar, but they pray she’ll find love and peace with Thad.  Anyway, they’ve got issues too: Tavie’s dating smart school principal, Mack Dooley, but she can’t escape the rumors that he’s playing around; Denise’s marriage to Sean is under pressure because she hasn’t conceived a second child; Vette’s dating an older guy, Louis Burns, but wonders if she’ll ever get a ring on her finger.

When Thad proposes to Cyn and she accepts, it looks like this sister’s finally on her way to true happiness.  But no sooner are the celebrations done, when there’s trouble—Bashar Bazzi is home, and he’s ready to settle his unfinished business with Cyn…

What people are saying...“Cyndarella Worthy, an African-American lady, is caught in the twists and turns of love centered on one of the most enduring and captivating contemporary romance stories...One Foot Outside The Door. Against this background, “Cyn” as she is fondly called grapples with a blast from the past and a tragic secret that threatens her marriage to her heartthrob Thad Mitchell...”

In the first novel of a highly anticipated series, The Amorous Trilogy, Vina St. Fran explores with finesse, the story of a single African-American lady whose life is shattered by Bashar Bazzi, a Chaldean gentleman of Iraqi descent who after four years of romance leaves her to attend to his family business in Baghdad. 14 years after, she settles to marry Thad Mitchell, also an African-American but her joy is cut short as Bashar comes onto the scene. She’s torn between an old flame and a life of bliss with Thad. But can she resist the chemistry between herself and Bashar whose family prejudice tore them apart in the first place?

“I am not a fan of most debut novels in which I have reviewed. I must warn you in advance that this is not the typical cookie-cutter Contemporary Romance novel you may currently find yourself reading...there is a true love story which unfolds here that entertains as well as educates. The storytelling is solid, focused, and downright unpredictable! The supporting cast of characters each with their own distinctive flavoring makes this a must-read book that I would highly recommend,” said Lacey Smalton, Reviewer from the Midwest Book Review, Reviewers Choice, March 2015 edition.

Faridah Nassozi of Reader’s Favorite Book Review March 23, 2015 adds, One Foot Outside The Door by Vina St. Fran delivered a story filled with romance, suspense and relationship drama through love triangles, betrayals, broken trust, and second chances.”

“One Foot Outside The Door," was previously published in 2007. This is a revised edition. The books were edited by former Sr. Executive Editor, Tessa Shapcott, of Harlequin Mills & Boon UK Ltd. Book Two of the Amorous Trilogy, "Betrayal's Dust" will be out October 15, 2015.
