Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

REVIEW

*** Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin publisher for the review copy ***

This novel starts exactly after six months from the end of the first novel - The Goddess Test.  After spending the summer with James, Kate returns expecting to strengthen the love towards her husband and the God of the Underworld, Henry.  But, Henry keeps ignoring her and a battle that will kill her new family.  When Henry was captured in that battle against Cronos, the King of the Titans, Kate sets out to get him back.  The only person, who knows the place where Cronos is, is Persephone, Kate's sister.  Kate, along with James and Ava, finds her in the Land of the Dead and have to convince her into helping them.  Even if she helps, there is no guarantee that any of them can stop Cronos, the most powerful god and their creator.

I enjoyed the first in this series and this novel was definitely better than the first one.  There was more action and adventure, more love and pain, more myth.  Kate's naivety and goodness is one, that has to be adored.  Although she expects some love from Henry, she tries to understand him and help him.  Sometimes, I thought Henry is a jerk for not understanding the love of Kate.  I was so happy for the couple, when once things got calm and settled.

There are some more characters introduced in this book and one of my fav is Ingrid, one of the girls who was killed by Calliope during the Goddess tests.  I was laughing at the prologue, when Ingrid keeps on talking to Calliope until she can't stand it.  She is kinda cute and innocent, and extremely optimistic.  The old characters like James, Ava and Calliope have done their best to admire or hate them. :)

There is a cliffhanger in the book.  I will be waiting desperately for the next book in the series.  Great story-telling and good plot.  Recommended for romance and mythology fans (who doesn't mind if the mythology part of it sometimes is different from what they know).

4.5 stars!
