What’s your favorite thing about Christmas and why?

- Guest Post by Jessica Shirvington

Christmas is such a beautiful time of year. What’s my favorite thing…? Well, I’m a mother so it goes without saying that I love seeing my kids get excited in the build up and then their gorgeous faces light up come Christmas morning. It’s the kind of stuff that always makes me cry and that they are young enough to still believe in Santa Claus makes their wide-eyed excitement that much more genuine. For my husband and I, we are like big kids when it comes to setting up Christmas for the kids. Some of our favorite times have been staying up building their toys on Christmas Eve, although blowing up the jumping castle with a tiny foot pump probably wasn’t our brightest idea ever (but by 4 am that baby was up!).

Some of my other favorite things revolve around the food. I mean, come on, ham only tastes that good one day a year and by the time Christmas day arrives I am craving it! Christmas in Australia is a bit different because they are hot. We spend a lot of time outside, in pools, and cooking on barbeques so seafood is another thing we really enjoy.

My husband and I try to organize our annual vacation just after Christmas every year so sometimes it feels like we are constantly counting down the days to Christmas because we know that straight after we get to go away with our kids and have some downtime. This year we are going to the snow (woohoo!) and I can’t wait!

One of the best things about Christmas is that sense that you are creating memories. From my childhood to adult years I can remember many Christmases for many different reasons. A gift I received, the people I shared it with, the country I was living in, the weather – and it all revolves around early mornings, food, family and friends, giving and receiving and a big beautiful tree with sparking lights and decorations.

Merry Christmas everyone!
