Review: The Obsidian Pebble by R.A. Jones

Original Title: The Obsidian Pebble
Series: Artifact #1
Author: R.A. Jones
Publisher: Createspace
Published Date: November 18th 2011
Genre: Children's, Mystery

Oz Chambers lives in a haunted house. His mother wants to move, but Oz believes that the old place is too full of mystery to leave. When he and his friends hear ghostly footsteps, they decide to investigate the house’s eerie reputation. But what Oz hasn’t bargained for is that he’s not alone in his quest and that solving Penwurt’s puzzles will uncover a murky secret, and the chilling realisation that nothing is quite what it seems. The Obsidian Pebble is the first of five books in the Artefact series for young readers of all ages.

An interesting mystery for children!

Oz is a ten year old kid, living with his mom in a big haunted house.  His father died two years back and the family is still trying to get over it.  Oz, along with his two best friends, hear footsteps in that house and they proceed to solve the mystery.  The kids stumble on to something big, that they can't handle.  Does the Obsidian Pebble, a artifact, has anything to do with the haunted house and most importantly, his father's death?

The kid is picked up by his own classmates and the older students, but he handles them well.  I liked this book for many reasons..good writing and great mystery, being the main things.  The struggles of Oz's mom, after the death of his father was explaining in a great way.  I can actually see how the family would have felt..there is no drama involved there and for that, I thank the author.

I was reminded of Enid Blyton's mysteries, when I read this, and this clearly is a good sign.  It will definitely prove to be a promising series.

Recommended for children!
